It isn’t often you get to taste a new cheese for the first time – so this is a prize to delight gourmets and cheese fans. Dziugas is from the Baltics and is a very different and delicious addition to the cheeseboard which, once tasted, soon becomes a favourite. It has a rich savoury flavour, as a result of being matured by the expert Lithuanian cheese makers for between 12 and 36 months, but is still delicate on the palate with a distinct caramel and nutty overtone.
Dziugas offers an unusual level of flexibility to cheese fans. You can eat it like a mature cheddar - munched in little chunks with nuts or dried fruit as the perfect snack. But it is equally valuable when used like a Parmigianino, as a cooking ingredient in bakes, toppings and sauces, or as a seasoning – grated or shaved over salads, meat or pasta. In this way it provides excellent value in the kitchen and never lasts for long!
